Water Park
Cool off and have a blast at a nearby water park, enjoying slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers. Generally, this is a full day of activities, so prepare to protect yourself from the sun.
Backyard Camping
Teach your children about nature by camping in a nearby park or even in the backyard. This may depend on their age and what is most comfortable for everyone. The older they get, the further from home they’ll want to roam.
Obstacle Course
Create a fun and challenging obstacle course using household items, and let your kids compete against each other. If there is only one child, you may turn this into a castle-building activity.
Outdoor Movie Night
Set up a projector and screen (or a white sheet) in your backyard for a family movie night under the stars. With some blankets and pillows, you can make a comfortable space for everyone to enjoy the show. Maybe make it a neighborhood movie night and invite others.
Fruit Picking
Visit a local farm and pick seasonal fruits like strawberries, blueberries, or cherries. Find local spots with permission to learn and interact with different kinds of food like fruit and vegetables.
Geocaching
Embark on a treasure hunt using a GPS-enabled device to find hidden geocaches in your area. You can search “geocaches” to learn more. In short, you hide containers around the neighborhood/town, provide clues and monitor the children as they explore and discover.
Museum / Science Center
Plan a fun, educational trip to a local museum or science center to explore exhibits and interactive displays.
DIY Tie-Dye
Set up a tie-dye station in your backyard and let your kids create colorful shirts, pillowcases, or tote bags.
The Library
Local libraries and bookstores have daily events for children, such as read-aloud or drawing activities. Find out if your local library has reading/writing contests that encourage your children to read/write and win a prize.
Beach Day
Head to the nearest beach or lake for a day of swimming, building sandcastles, and beach games. If this is a lake, you might consider a remote-controlled boat or drone or other activities that aren’t beach related.
Picnic in the Park
Pack a delicious picnic and enjoy a meal outdoors with your kids, followed by some playground fun or a nature walk.
Start a Garden
Teach your children about plants and gardening by starting a small vegetable or flower garden together.
Take a Bike Ride
Explore your neighborhood or local parks on a family bike ride.
Arts and Crafts
Set up an outdoor art station for painting, drawing, or making crafts using natural materials like leaves and twigs.
Amusement Park
Spend a day at a nearby amusement park, riding roller coasters, playing games, and enjoying carnival treats.
Water Balloon Fight
Fill up several water balloons and have a good old-fashioned water balloon fight in your backyard.
Whatever summer activity you decide to enjoy with your kids, remember to pack sunscreen, hats, sweaters, and lots of liquids for your fun day out!
If you have younger children, consider packing a light snack as well to keep them happy in between meals. The memories created as a family are everlasting; children strive and grow happy and feel loved when they spend time with their families, especially doing something fun that they enjoy doing. Enjoy the summer and stay safe!
