Biography
Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Johanna knew at an early age that she wanted to be an attorney. Growing up, Johanna volunteered at animal rescues, domestic violence shelters, and Habitat for Humanity. That invaluable experience led her to dedicate her career to helping others.
Johanna moved to Colorado in 2014 for law school, and although her career took her to Omaha and Toronto for some time after she graduated, she has been glad to be back practicing law in Colorado since 2020, originally as a prosecutor. When she transitioned into private practice, she found family law to be a natural fit given her empathetic nature and passion for helping others.

Johanna became a lawyer to help others and enjoys getting to know her clients as people, not just in terms of their legal issues. She empathizes with all of her client’s unique situations and tries to make the process as painless and smooth as possible.
She draws upon her substantial experience in many areas of law to find holistic solutions for her client’s agreements without the need for court intervention whenever possible. Johanna tells all her clients that we will prepare for litigation throughout the case, with the goal being to use that preparation to prevent having to go to court at all.
However, as a former prosecutor, Johanna thrives in a courtroom and enjoys litigating and defending her clients in court when necessary. She appreciates how intimidating litigation can be, and always ensures her clients are educated about the process and feel confident and prepared when they step into court.
Johanna graduated magna cum laude in History and Psychology from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, and was a proud member of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
She attended the University of Colorado Boulder for law school and participated in the Criminal and Immigration Clinic, and Indian Law Clinic. She also interned with the Colorado Public Defenders throughout law school, allowing her to appear in court after her second year of law school, securing a not-guilty verdict on all counts in her very first trial. She also tutored Torts for two years and was an Editor for the Colorado Environmental Law Journal.
Johanna is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and the El Paso County Bar Association. She also serves on the Colorado Bar Association’s Board of Governors and is active in the High School Mock Trial Committee. She was also appointed to the 12th Judicial District’s Judicial Performance Commission in 2021 and has been active on the Commission since that time.
